Our families mission is to inspire people to care about where their food comes from and how it is made by producing local farm fresh food that tastes delicious.

When we say “family farms”, it’s no joke! We currently have 13 family members actively involved and dedicated to our mission. Doug, plays the role of father and gives insight into business practice when needed. You can also find him giving a tour or two each year to wandering vacationers landing at the farm via Harvest Hosts. Mona, aka: Mama Bear, works on ice cream R&D, along with handling the accounts for both the dairy and creamery. Leah, the eldest sibling, handles operations of three retail locations and management contracts for Falls Overlook and concessions with the City of Sioux Falls. Leah’s husband, Abe, is vice president at Fairtax and handles all of the financials for the stores and contracts. The twins, Jason and Justin primary run operations within the Creamery and act as advisors for the farm. Jason’s wife, Paige, handles wholesale accounts and is a tour guide during season. Justin’s wife, Chelsea, handles inventory and managing farm tours. Kyle, youngest brother, is responsible for day-to-day farm operations. This involves both the livestock, dairy and crops. As the grandchildren get older, we continually train them in multiple areas of the business. Kelton works on the farm part-time. You can find Jovie and Keira assisting in the Creamery in the summer months. Keira and Sophia are also learning the ropes in the retail stores and concessions.

Stensland Family Farms was first homesteaded over 100 years ago by Tobias Stensland.  Arthur Stensland (son of Tobias), was married in 1952 and began his dairy operation with only 12 cows. Art's young sons grew up milking and working on the farm. Eventually, Doug (the oldest son) joined his father in the operation. They decided to retire the dairy operation - tear apart and sell the equipment. Fast forward to 2003 and grandson twins, Jason and Justin (17 years old) approached their grandfather Art about restarting the dairy as a means to earn money for college. Doug and Mona helped the boys acquire the funds needed and with the knowledge from their father and grandfather they began putting hours in before and after school, milking twice a day with the help of their younger brother, Kyle. Over the next 8 years, the dairy would grow to a robotic system milking 250 cows.  In 2015, the farm broke ground for the creamery. The entire family operation has grown to include Jason and Justin, along with their families, their brother Kyle, parents Doug and Mona as well as their sister Leah (Stensland) Moller.
